Hi Everyone

My name is Jemima but everyone calls me Mima. I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia on 13th June 2007 and had to spend just over 3 weeks in hospital. I have set up this blog so that I can keep in touch with my friends and keep you up to date with what I am doing.

WE DID IT!!! - THANKS TO ALL OF YOU WHO HAVE SUPPORTED JEMIMA INVITES OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS, WE HAVE NOW MANAGED TO BEGIN THE RESEARCH WHICH PROFESSOR MARTIN DYER WAS SO DESPERATE TO DO.

Monday 12th May 2008

I have had a great week. I have had no treatment at all and have been able to go to two birthday parties and two barbeques!!!
I am very proud of myself today because I had a blood test at school all on my own and I think I was really brave. My friend Lily came in with me and she made me feel happy because she is funny. I went to her birthday party on Saturday and it was such fun. You will never guess what we did. First of all we had a swim and that is the first time I have swam in a year. Then we went in the outside jacuzzi and then we had a manicure! It was fantastic!
My blood results today are very good so that means I can start the last four week block in this lot of treatment. So in to hospital for 8.30 am tomorrow morning for a general anaesthetic with a lumbar puncture for some methotrexate into my spine. Then really really boring the rest of the day will be cyclophosphamide and fluids until about 7 o'clock tomorrow night. Then after that I will have chemo into my line at home every day for 4 days and chemo tablets for 2 weeks. I think I will probably be sick tomorrow but who knows.
Night night. Oh yes, Digby and I just did dog agility again and he was really good.

Hi Mima! I'm really glad you've had a good week - you of all people deserve it! I too think you were very brave having your blood test all on your own, you should be very proud. I'm not very keen on blood tests either so I sympathise with you a lot. Hope you don't feel too sick today, I've been thinking of you all day. So what exactly do you and Digby do at this dog agility thing? I think my cats need to go to cat agility because agile they are not. Morgan jumps on the cupboard because he's too impatient to wait for his food then eats it from the pouch and Scooby... well he has ruined every carpet and our sofa because he insists on scratching them. What am I going to do with them??
Hope the next few days aren't too bad for you... Lots of love Kathryn xXx and the terrible twosome purr, purr, purr

It has been really nice to see you around and about at school and I am glad you have been feeling much better this week.
I am also glad you are having a go at training Digby. I bet you are a really good teacher and he loves having you as his mummy and in charge.
I hope you will be okay at the hospital tomorrow. You are much braver than me. Love The Greenlees.

Hi Mima,

I was rather hoping I would get to mention your website on TV the other day, but they only gave us 12mins, when we expecting 20mins!!
ITV have provided a link http://www.itv.com/Lifestyle/ThisMorning/Health/Donorfriendship123/default.html, which is now live and Dr. Chris Steele has also promised to list your link next week.

I understand from mummy, that you have had more chemo, and feeling very sick, I hope you feel better later this week. Keep your pecker up.

I did get to meet Judge Dread Jason Gardiner from Dancing on Ice, he certainly puts alot of make up on, even mascara !!, I was embarrassed with just a little foundation!! He was great to talk to and introduce me to singing coach who wants to see Ella at half term, to check out the voice.

I also met Rosie Webster from corrie(Helen Flanagan), beautiful eyes, just like yours. I told aunty Barb she was flirting with me? dont tell her, but she was really flirting with Chris Corbin. He's a better cook than me!!

Lots of Love The Dog Trainer S. xx

Hi Mima
Th MRI scan machine was really noisy. Maitenence is a bit better but I can't really tell because I've used my legs too much and they are really sore. Sorry I can't tell you too much Ben xxx

Dear Mima, Hope you are feeling OKish! Thought I would add to Ben's message as he didn't give you much feedback. Maintenance is much better in that there are far less visits to the hospital!! So he has been able to get back to school pretty much full time which he really enjoys. But there is still a lot of chemo and you still have to wacth out for infections etc. but so far so good for Ben. If you read our blog you will know that Ben has just been really unlucky to be having such problems with his legs and headaches. They don't really know if things will improve for him or not which is why they are running tests such as the MRI scan but it might not show anything except weak bones and muscles beacuse of the chemo. But at least you can bear in mind that your maintenance will not be as long as Ben's as girls only get a year where as boys get two. So Ben will still be having treatment way after all the girls we know from the ward have finished - even if they started after him. And also you will be able to go swimming which Ben can't do because he has a Hickman Line. So it won't all be bad, so try not to worry I am sure you will be fine. Good luck with the last few weeks on intensive stuff. Thinking of you lots. Love Anita XX

Sorry I haven't written for a while but I have tried.Every time I tried to post something it didn't work.
I was very impressed to read that you had the blood test by yourself. You are such a brave girl. You must be a star patient.
Glad you enjoyed the manicure.Have you ever had a pedicure? They are really very relaxing, provided your feet aren't ticklish.
Hope the latest block of treatment isn't making you feel to awful.I know you will do your best to keep smiling.
Well done to Digby for being good at the agility class. He really is a clever dog.

Hola Mima
One year on, what a journey you have taken through life and what a very special person you are. Well
done, the end is in sight. Summer has at last arrived in Mallorca and I took my first swim in the cold sea. Pleased to say there was not a jelly fish in sight.
All my love thinking of you.
