Hi Everyone

My name is Jemima but everyone calls me Mima. I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia on 13th June 2007 and had to spend just over 3 weeks in hospital. I have set up this blog so that I can keep in touch with my friends and keep you up to date with what I am doing.

WE DID IT!!! - THANKS TO ALL OF YOU WHO HAVE SUPPORTED JEMIMA INVITES OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS, WE HAVE NOW MANAGED TO BEGIN THE RESEARCH WHICH PROFESSOR MARTIN DYER WAS SO DESPERATE TO DO.

Monday 17th November 2008

I am back home again!
Well, I have had my first ride in an ambulance now and had the blue flashing lights on too! It was very exciting, shame I don't remember it!!!
What happened was, I put my arm through the glass door by the front door just as we were about to leave to go to my ballet show but oh deary me no, I was not going to the ballet show any more, I told Mummy to call 999 and then we had to wait and wait and wait for the paramedics to come and then wait and wait and wait again for the ambulance to come to take me into A & E! There was blood and glass all over the floor and my arm was hanging off in pieces - yuuuuukkkk!!!
Anyway, on Friday morning I was put to sleep for an operation to sew my arm back together again and it took 2½ hours and I now have 30 stitches in 2 wounds and another wound which is glued together. The doctors have put my arm in half a plaster so I can't stretch the stitches but the good thing is it is my left arm this time so I can still do some things with my right.
I had to stay in hospital since Thursday night to have lots of IV antibiotics and to make sure my arm was ok. I had lots of fun though because my friend Lucy was there too because she had a bit of a temperature. Neither of us felt really ill so it meant we could just hang out together and watch movies or play in the playroom. We had a big curry on Saturday night and watched Strictly and X Factor. Lucy and I had a real laugh singing Angels into snooker cues and dancing like Ruth!
My arm feels much better now and I am having the stitches out next Monday. I am neutropaenic and have very low hb so Mummy has to keep a very close eye on me and no chemo until next week when hopefully my bloods will have recovered.

Oh my goodness, how absolutely scary for you and Mummy. I bet it really hurt and you must have felt quite woozy with losing all that blood. I'm sure the doctors will have done a good job stitching your arm back together but it must be oh so sore. Please take it easy and rest lots. I find chocolate helps a lot!
lots of love, Helen, Jon, Tom and Beckyxxxx

WELL MIMA....I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY!!!
FOR ONCE IN MY LIFE I'M STUCK FOR WORDS!
I'M AT CENTER PARCS FOR THE WEEK, AND I WAS SITTING IN OUR VILLA AFTER BREAKFAST AND I THOUGHT TO MYSELF "I'LL GO TO THE COUNTRY CLUB AND SEE IF I CAN GET A SIGNAL FOR MY LAPTOP SO I CAN SEE WHAT MIMA'S BEEN UPTO" I DIDN'T EXPECT TO READ WHAT I JUST DID!!
YOU DON'T DO THINGS BY HALVES DO YOU!!!
WHAT AMAZES ME IS THAT YOU HAVE FOUND A GOOD POINT TO HAVING 30 STITCHES IN YOUR ARM....IT'S YOUR LEFT ARM SO YOU CAN STILL DO THINGS WITH YOUR RIGHT ARM!!
UNBELIEVABLE!!!
WELL I HOPE IT HEALS UP NICELY.....AND QUICKLY,AND I'M GLAD IT HASN'T STOPPED YOU WRITING ON YOUR BLOG!
I'M ABOUT TO GO SWIMMING WITH THE BOYS NOW SO TAKE CARE MIMA,

Hi Mima,
I'm so glad you're home - did you enjoy Grease with Lucy? It was good that you were both in together - has she gone home now I wonder? I've only just read your poem - I think you should write more as it's brilliant! (Sorry if it's a pain when we come round!!!)Thinking of you lots and we all send our love, Jemma Eff xxx

Firstly I loved the poem. Pity it was a sad subject but an excellent way of explaining how you feel.
What a shock to read about your accident.I couldn't think what to say.I can't imagine how frightening it must have been. Missing the ballet show was unfortunate to say the least. What a pity I'm sure you would have been fantastic.
Glad you made the best of your hospital visit and managed to have some fun.
Lots of love
Sue

Yuk Yuk Yuk Mima - all that blood sounds lovely - not! You are a bit of accident prone aren't you - was it the same arm as you broke I can't remember?? It sounds painful - ow. It was a bit of a bummer that you don't remember the ambulance ride though. I hope your arm recovers quickly. It's good that you had a nice time with your friend Lucy dancing around the playroom. With a bit of practice perhaps you could be on Strictly or X factor?? I'm glad that when having something as horrible as shredding your arm up you got a bit of fun out of it anyway. What are you like? Lots of love Kathryn xxx p.s. Sorry Morgan and Scooby are not a patch on you so I won't even try except Morgan got stuck in our coats cupboard at the weekend. He said it was the most traumatic 7 minutes of his life. x

Oh mima - how very scary for you and mummy, daddy and emily, I am so pleased that the lovely doctors have managed to "patch" you up - I'm sure you have been very brave as well. I have read your poem, it is fab - you should write one about your arm. Look after yourself darling and hopefully when you feeling a bit better, Hammie can come and write on your plaster!! Hi Mima!!
well really, I know that you were fed up that I wasn't on headresses, but there was no need to go putting your arm through a glass door!!!
But seriously though, we were all absolutely gutted that you didn't make it.. I think that everyone was so excited that you were going to be able to perform, and it just was not the same with out you, bless you my love, I hope you are bouncing back with your usual style!
The show was great, you would have been proud of them all... maybe you will get to see the DVD when it is out. Now of course everyone is coming down with the colds that they refused to give in to last week, germs and exhaustion are kicking in!
I thought that your poem was brilliant, you should have it published... I know that it had a sadness to it, but that's real too, isn't it? Sometimes it is better to find a way to express our feelings, they are usually better out than in I think... ask my family they will tell you just how much I let my feelings out!!
Anyway I had an interesting conversation with a very nice man who has a good fund raising idea, and I thought of you. Can you ask mummy to call me when she has a moment. my mobile is 07921500787, or she knows the restaurant numbers.
Big love and kisses Sarah
and Lino and The Girls too!

Hi Mima
Thank goodness you are home and patched up and maybe even seeing the funny (not really) side of things. We think you should be nominated for being The Most accident prone girl we know... Sit down and read a book! Take up stamp collecting or knitting. Poor Mummy and Daddy!
Lots of love to you, M, D and E. William and Mel xx

Hello Flower
What a fantastic way to report such a mad and crazy week!!!! I'm sure I read on your Blog (ages ago) that you broke your arm and now youv'e gone and posted it through glass. Are you mad??? I'm so glad that it has been well stitched and that they kept you in for observation (what they didn't tell you is that they were observing you for madness). Big hugs to you because you must be feeling sore and probably a bit itchy with all those stitches and big hugs to Mum who is probably still in shock. Stay well XXXX Michelle and Mia XXX

You are a very brave and lovely girl, Mima, your parents and friends must be so proud of you and you sound as though you have had loads of difficulties on your journey with ALL but coped magnificently and cheerfully. And what's more, you are a fantastic fund raiser too! My son Carlos is 10 and he has ALL, diagnosed 1 year ago. We will start maintenance in a couple of weeks. I saw an article about your blog and thought I must look it up. So glad I did. Keep up the fundraising and good luck with everything for the future.
